Sheffield Sharks forward Marko Backovic says he is privileged to play for the club that he grew up supporting.
Marko came through the ranks of the junior Sharks and made his first team debut when he was in Y11 at school in 2012.
Since then Marko has grown as a player and therefore grown within the team and plays a pivotal role within the squad.
“I love playing for the club and the fans through the good and bad times and I think that the season has been ok for me personally, definitely ups and downs but overall I’m happy with how I’ve helped the team in the ways I can” Said Marko.
On the teams performance, Marko said: “After such a great start I think we took our foot of the pedal a bit and it was disappointing not to progress further in the cup and trophy and in the league I felt like we never really showed our best in what we can do and then with Covid 19 happening it obviously frustrated us as we had just started a busy period of fixtures.”
“One thing I have learnt from this season is that you can never take anything for granted the manner in which the season has ended has shown that .”
The Sharks along with many other BBL clubs made the decision of flying overseas players back home so that they could be safe with their families during the coronavirus pandemic.
Marko said: “Understandably it has unsettled the squad a little bit with those not from the UK being sent back home and in the end there was only ever one sensible option, which leaves us where we are at the moment in isolation with our families.”
“In the future, for me personally I just want to help the squad in anyway I can and also develop my own game and be a stronger player.”
“I hope all the fans are staying safe and following the Government’s advice and I wish them and their families all good health and hopefully see them all soon.”
